GENDER DISCRIMINATION STILL EXIST IN OUR SECONDARY SCHOOLS

With the dawn of liberation and march towards modernity, one would expect all deep-rooted conservative conception and irrational socio-prejudice among which gender discrimination is a major to recede but sadly, reverse is the case.

Education remains under the strangleholds of major stratification of discriminatory practices such as- child marriage, female genital mutilation and orthodox religious practices.⁣⁣

No doubt there has been a considerable improvement in the enrollment of girls in schools in the South-Western part of Nigeria. However, a lot still needs to be done especially in the Northern part of the country where over 50% of the 10million children not enrolled in school are girls. (UNICEF REPORT 2017)⁣
